Privacy Policy

1. Overview

SonoScholar is a research reading and study product operated by GreyAI Inc. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it with service providers, and what choices you have.

We do not sell your personal data. We do use third-party infrastructure and model providers to operate the product, so some information is processed by those providers as part of the service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in a few categories:

  • Account information: email address, authentication identifiers, and account metadata.
  • Library and workspace content: papers, PDFs, images, OCR output, notes, highlights, wiki articles, voice notes, and related reading data you upload or create.
  • Usage and product data: reading progress, selected settings, language choices, feature usage, queue and processing state, and error or security logs.
  • Audio and voice session data: audio sent during voice interactions, transcripts, and related session events used to provide the assistant experience.
  • Billing and ledger data: credit balances, usage events, Stripe checkout identifiers, payment status, and audit records needed to operate prepaid credits and prevent abuse.
  • Connected library credentials and metadata: if you connect services such as Zotero or Mendeley, we store the connection data and related sync metadata needed to support that integration.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to operate and improve the product, including to:

  • authenticate users and maintain accounts
  • store, organize, and sync your research library and notes
  • run OCR, translation, semantic search, AI assistance, and audiobook or voice features
  • track balances, enforce credit limits, and process prepaid checkout flows
  • detect abuse, investigate incidents, and maintain service reliability and security
  • respond to support requests and product questions

4. Service Providers and Third-Party Processing

SonoScholar relies on third-party providers to deliver the service. Depending on the feature you use, data may be processed by providers such as:

  • Supabase for authentication, database storage, and user state
  • Cloudflare R2 for file storage
  • Stripe for checkout and payment records
  • LiveKit for real-time voice sessions
  • AI / model providers routed by the service for OCR, transcription, text generation, translation, and speech features
  • Connected-source providers such as Zotero or Mendeley when you choose to link those accounts

We share only the information reasonably needed to provide the requested feature, operate the system, secure the service, or complete a payment or sync action you initiated.

5. Retention and Deletion

We retain account data and uploaded content for as long as needed to operate your workspace, maintain billing and security records, and comply with legal obligations.

If you request account deletion, we will delete or de-identify content we control within a reasonable time, except where retention is needed for payment records, fraud prevention, abuse prevention, audit logging, legal obligations, or dispute resolution.

6. Security

We use reasonable technical and operational measures to protect account data and stored content. No storage or transmission system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children and Sensitive Use

SonoScholar is intended for researchers, students, and other general users, and is not directed to children under 13. Do not use the service to upload highly sensitive personal information unless you are comfortable with it being processed by our service providers as part of the requested feature.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
